Liquid Desiccant Unit Project at a Museum in Inner Mongolia

Mar 04, 2026

Project Overview:
Located in Inner Mongolia, this museum covers an area of approximately 240 square meters with a floor height of 3 meters. Its primary function is the collection and preservation of important books and archival documents. Given that paper-based materials are extremely sensitive to humidity fluctuations—where excessive environmental humidity can lead to the rapid proliferation of mold and fungi, directly threatening the safety of the collections—efficient and stable dehumidification equipment is a critical requirement for this museum.

Operational Modes:
The design utilizes Aolan's heat pump counter-flow liquid desiccant units. The equipment is installed in the indoor air-conditioning machinery room and connects to the museum's collection storage area via supply and return air ducts. It features micro-air supply indoors, ensuring uniform airflow distribution and maintaining extremely low fluctuations in indoor temperature and humidity. For most of the time, it operates in full return air mode to conserve energy. When personnel enter or exit the collection storage area, the fresh air damper can be opened to provide the necessary fresh air, allowing the unit to operate in mixed-air mode. Throughout the year, it operates automatically as needed, including cooling, dehumidification, heating, and humidification modes. Based on changes in indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, it automatically switches between these modes to maintain a largely constant indoor temperature and humidity.

Results Showcase:
This project was put into operation in early March 2025 and is performing well, meeting the indoor temperature and humidity design requirements. The daily temperature variation is controlled between 2°C and 5°C, and the daily relative humidity fluctuation does not exceed 5%, achieving stable operation with low fluctuation and low power consumption. Furthermore, during operation, the system effectively removes harmful substances and fine dust from the air, improving the air quality within the storage area.

On-site acceptance was conducted according to the agreed-upon acceptance documents/standards/terms stipulated by both parties. The acceptance results met the design requirements. Through long-term operational tracking records, the indoor environment is generally maintained with a dry-bulb temperature between 19°C and 20°C and relative humidity between 54% and 55%. The instantaneous power consumption has consistently remained significantly below the design power consumption level.
